Getting Started

PitchStar is an ear training app that helps you develop your musical ear through interactive exercises. It uses your device's microphone to listen as you sing, giving you real-time feedback on your pitch accuracy. Exercises cover intervals, chords, scales, rhythm, and more, all structured into a step-by-step curriculum.

No, you can start learning right away as a guest. Creating an account is optional, but it lets you sync your progress across devices and ensures your data is safe if you switch phones or reinstall the app.

Pick the range that feels most natural when you sing. If you're not sure, go with the middle option for your voice type. It doesn't need to be exact. The app adapts to you, and you can always change it later in Settings.

The Star Map is your learning path. Each star is a topic containing lessons that build on each other. Complete lessons to unlock new topics and advance through units. The curriculum starts with the fundamentals and gradually works up to more complex skills.

Microphone & Audio

No. Your microphone audio is processed entirely on your device in real time. It's used only for pitch detection. Nothing is ever recorded, stored, or sent to any server. Once the app analyzes your pitch, the audio data is immediately discarded.

Here are a few things to check:

• Make sure microphone permission is enabled: go to your device's Settings → PitchStar → Microphone • Sing at a comfortable, steady volume (you don't need to be loud) • Minimize background noise (TV, music, other people talking) • Hold your phone about 6 to 12 inches from your mouth • If you're using a case, make sure it's not covering the microphone • Try the built-in device mic instead of headphone mic, as it's often more reliable • Go to Settings → Mic Calibration to fine-tune the sensitivity threshold

Open your device's Settings app, scroll down to PitchStar, and toggle Microphone on. When you switch back to the app, it'll detect the change automatically and let you continue.

A few things that make a big difference:

• Find a quiet space. Background noise is the most common cause of inaccurate detection. • Sing at a natural, comfortable volume. • Hold your device about 6 to 12 inches from your face. • The built-in device microphone usually works better than headphone or earbud mics. • If results seem inconsistent, try recalibrating in Settings → Mic Calibration.

Subscription & Billing

Subscriptions are handled by your device's app store, not by PitchStar directly:

• iOS: Open Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → PitchStar • Android: Open Google Play → tap your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions

Apple and Google manage all billing. PitchStar never sees or stores your payment information.

Sign in with the same account you originally used. Your subscription should restore automatically. If it doesn't, go to Settings in the app and tap "Restore Purchases." Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account that was used for the purchase.

This usually resolves on its own within a few minutes. Try closing and reopening the app. If it persists, make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account used for the purchase, then tap "Restore Purchases" in Settings. If it still doesn't work, reach out to us on our contact page.

Account & Progress

Go to Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, all progress data, and any personal information. This action cannot be undone, so make sure you're certain before confirming.

Make sure you're signed in to the same account on both devices. Progress syncs automatically when you have an internet connection. If syncing seems stuck, try closing and reopening the app on both devices. If the problem continues, contact us.

On the sign-in screen, tap "Forgot password?" and enter your email address. You'll receive a reset link. If you don't see the email within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder.

Yes. Go to Settings → Clear Local Data to reset your lesson progress on the current device. If you're signed in, your progress on other devices won't be affected until you clear those separately.
